A Survey of Students' Entrepreneurship Traits(A Case Study of Darab Islamic Azad University

Abstract

This research was conducted to explore Darab Islamic Azad University students' entrepreneurship facets. To this end this descriptivecorrelational study drew a sample of 410 students from among all university students using stratified sampling strategy. The research instrument was a researcher-made likert-scale questionnaire which comprised 30 items tapping five traits of entrepreneurship, that is, need for achievement, internal locus of control, creativity, risking-taking and need for independence. Content validity of the instrument was established by the means of authorities' opinion and item analysis. Its reliability was assessed through test-retest method and Cronbach's alpha. In order to analyze the data a use was made of ANOVA, t-test, Friedman test, and Pearson product moment correlation. The results of this research showed that the means of entrepreneurship on the whole and all its components except risk-taking were above average. The results also showed that there was a significant difference among educational groups in respect of all entrepreneurship components, except creativity. There was also significant difference between male and female students in terms of the need for achievement, the need for independence and entrepreneurship mentality whereas no significant difference was found between them concerning internal locus of control, creativity and risktaking. Furthermore, it was revealed that there was a positive correlation between academic achievement and entrepreneurship components except creativity. And finally as far as the associate and bachelor students were concerned a significant difference was found between them with respect to the need for achievement, the need for independence and risk-taking.
