Investigating the effectiveness of self-regulated learning strategies on students' math problem solving skills

Abstract

The basis of the theory of self-regulated learning is the organization of a person's learning behaviors in terms of motivational and metacognitive beliefs by himself. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of two dimensions of motivation and metacognitive of self-regulated learning on students' math problem solving skills.

The statistical population was male students of the first secondary school in Dashtestan city in the academic year of 1402-1401 and the statistical sample included 100 of these students who were selected through random stepwise cluster sampling.The research data was collected by the Pentrich and DeGroot self-regulation strategies for learning questionnaire and by examining the written answers of the students to a test according to the content of the teacher's teaching and the objectives of the mathematics book of all grades of this course. Data analysis was done by multiple regression analysis of entry model (inter) and Pearson correlation test.

Among several components of the motivational dimension of self-regulated learning, only motivational beliefs and exam anxiety, and among the components of the meta-cognitive dimension, attitude towards math, motivation, attention, and perseverance have a significant effect on the ability to solve mathematical problems of the students under study. Our findings emphasize the need for interventions in the field of strengthening these effective variables of self-regulated learning in students.

It seems that to improve the response of lipid profile to one session aerobic exercise, 15 days’ cinnamon supplementation can be used.
